For the Jura E6 and E8 it is a CLARIS Smart / Smart+ filter. If in doubt, look at the filter currently in your machine, or at the letters after E6 or E8 on the rating plate.

How long does a filter last?
Your machine asks for a new filter by itself. That depends on the hardness of your water. According to Jura, a Smart+ filter lasts for about 65 litres at 1-5 °dH, 60 litres at 6-10 °dH, 55 litres at 11-15 °dH, 50 litres at 16-20 °dH, 45 litres at 21-25 °dH and 40 litres at 26-30 °dH.
How to replace the filter (E8 EC and ED, E6 EC)
- Take out the tank and empty it.
- Unscrew the old cartridge anticlockwise and remove it together with the extension piece.
- Fit the extension piece onto a new cartridge, insert both and turn clockwise until you hear a click.
- Fill the tank with fresh, cold water and put it back. The machine recognises the new cartridge by itself.
- The E8 rinses the filter into the drip tray. On the E6 EC, place a container under the milk spout and open the rotary dial when the display asks you to, then close it again.
We did not find a procedure for switching the filter off in the manuals we checked. As long as the filter is working, you do not need to descale according to Jura: read more about descaling.
