Philips & Saeco water filter: AquaClean or Brita Intenza+?

A water filter keeps limescale and taste-affecting substances out of your water. Your coffee tastes purer and your Philips or Saeco needs descaling less often. But which filter fits your machine? There are two types, and they are not interchangeable.

AquaClean or Brita Intenza+?

Not sure?Check your machine's manual to see which filter goes with it, or look at the filter currently fitted: AquaClean has "AquaClean" printed on it and has no dial. You can usually find your machine's type number behind the water tank or under the drip tray.

When should you replace the filter?

Machines with AquaClean indicate themselves when the filter needs replacing. If you replace it on time every time, according to Philips you need to descale far less often. A Brita Intenza+ should be replaced about every 2 months, or after about 50 litres of water.

How to fit a new AquaClean filter

  1. Using an AquaClean filter for the first time? Descale the machine first; Philips asks for this before you start.
  2. Briefly submerge the filter in cold water and let the air bubbles escape.
  3. Place the filter in the empty water tank and press it firmly into place.
  4. Fill the water tank, confirm the new filter in your machine's menu and let the water run through the hot water spout until the machine indicates it is finished.
TipThe exact steps vary by model: always follow your machine's manual.
