Which descaler for your coffee machine? Explained by brand

Limescale makes your coffee more lukewarm and bitter and shortens the life of your machine. But which descaler should you choose? The safest choice is the descaler from your machine's brand: it is matched to the descaling programme and the materials.

How often should you descale?

Descale as soon as your machine asks for it. With average use, that is about every 3 months; more often with hard water, less often with a water filter. Don't wait too long after the message: the more limescale there is, the harder it is to remove.

What should you watch out for?

  1. Remove any water filter from the water tank before you descale.
  2. Start your machine's descaling programme and follow the display. Do not interrupt it.
  3. Rinse thoroughly as your machine indicates, so that no descaler is left behind.
TipThe exact steps vary by model: always follow your machine's manual.
